Disney Buys Lucasfilm

Well, apparently other SW fans are upset about this. So upset that Fox news wrote another article about this situation and how fans are "freaking out".

I wonder if this whole deal will change Disney's minds about making another trilogy...

I don't think it will, I think once people get a chance to cool down they will at first I was really upset but now I am kinda excited apparently this has been in the works for years its not all a sudden and can bring up a lot of exciting possibilities if anyone can take Lucasfilms over its disney. I am trying to remain optimistic and give them the benifit of the doubt it may be great

Yeah, people will get over it. I was freaked out at first, but now I'm super excited!! Once it's public knowlege, and everyone has put all their thoughts out there, things will calm down. You have to remember, they'll put anything dramatic in the news, and they will exagerate it and make it look waaay overblown when it's really just a bunch of us annoyed geeks. XD

And yes, I cling to the EU. IT'S MAH FAVORITE. *huggles EU books*

I agree the news does tend to blow things way out of proportion.

That kind of surprised me about the article; I've heard mostly positive reactions to this, and I'm starting to get excited myself

It was in the newspaper that the new movies will indeed pick up where RotJ left off, but I'm not as upset anymore. Unfortunately, this probably means they will adapt some of the EU, but I'm confident that Disney and Lucas can take the books and make them good. After all, some really good Clone Wars episodes were based on EU stories, but made better. I'm going to be optimistic, just as long as they don't put Mara Jade in the movies.

I'm really unhappy about Disney making another movie . I was perfectly happy with the six we already have.

Plus, I love how the EU has continued the story (minus Anakin Solo's and Mara Jade's death).

I'll wait till I see more on the new movie, but as of now...I will not be watching it when it comes out.

I love the EU, so I'm scared for it. XDDD But I'm open to new possibilities. ;D

I'm with Tahiri. I've seen sooooo many people freaking out on it and I'm just like "GIVE IT A CHANCE GUISE YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY'RE GONNA DOOOOO" XD Someone last night was like yelling curses and hating on Disney so much I was just like "CALM DOWN. PLEASE." I kinda yelled at them. XDD But they were being so rude!!!!

I have a very open mind. I've, for once, got a good feeling about this.

It's out guys. Episode 7 to be "original story" with "nothing from the current SW universe" but no word on time frame. And read their other article on whether or not the EU should be adapted.

Nuuu I wanted existing EU stuff. XD But I'm open to new stories if George is the one who wrote them.

EDIT: I'll be SUPER ANGRY if EU is no longer canon. Though, in my brain it will ALWAYS be canon.

Also as JC just pointed out to me, this is not a reputable news source, it doesn't seem professionally written and it contridicts what's already been officially announced. I am worried (I'm worried about everything and I willbe until I get more official dirt on all this), but I'm not gonna start crying (yet...).

You're right, Auty! I hope...I sincerely hope... XD But like Club Jade said, Disney didn't pay 4 billion dollars to have their next 20 movies outlined out for them by EU authors.

And there are different levels of canon, so even if they contradict some EU, they'll be on the same level of canon, but the movie-level canon will just be above it. XD it's hard to explain. As in, technically Mara Jade IS canon(She's on a HU shirt and trading cards and everything, so is Jaina and everybody) , and so is everything published by the EU(even the really lame stuff unfortunately).

So, it looks like they won't be using the original actors for the new trilogy.

I just realized something!!! New movies mean that Ahsoka could live!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And Ashley could play her!!!!! They could come up with plenty of explinations as to why Ahsoka wasn't in any of the other movies. And she might be a little older but AHSOKA IN A SW MOVIE WOULD BE SO AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

This is why I'm excited for the new movies! They open up so many possibilities!

Ok, know that I've had a chance to think about all of this, I've made up my mind on how I feel about this whole deal.

In short, I don't like it. It's not the whole Disney buying Lucasfilm deal (because they are a great company and they handled Marvel characters pretty well); it's the fact that they are making another trilogy. Although I never read nor really cared for the EU (sorry EU fans), I think making another trilogy would absolutely ruin SW (even for me). Especially since they're trying to make it about the main characters from the OT but recasting the entire thing. It would make a THOUSAND TIMES more sense if they made it about their kids. That way, they would just have to cast new roles but still keep the original actors to reprise their roles. Anyway, fans will be in outrage if it's not good (and even if it is, fans will still be upset about it because to the ridiculous recasting deal). To me, six movies (plus TCW) was absolutely ay-okay with me and making another might turn me into one of those angry fans that say "You ruined everything." The excuse of making another trilogy is bogus as well. Just because the SW movies are getting older and older doesn't mean that they'll go away. SW fans will always be there and they'll make sure that their kids and grandkids see the SW movies too, making them fans as well. So, in my mind, making a third trilogy is a waste of time and money and it sets themselves up for more angry fans.

I agree, I am also a bit leery about them making a new trilogy. I'm a huge EU fan and I don't want anyone messing it up anymore than it already is and I don't want them to re-cast the roles(since that would be so, so bad and just plain tacky ).

I agree a new trilogy is just going to make a lot of people mad. We already have the EU and the TCW.... Unless they make this new trilogy within a time frame that neither the EU or TCW has touched I don't really trust them with a story that already has so much in it.

Also can anyone picture someone besides Harrison Ford playing Han Solo?????!!!!! I THINK NOT!!!!

I actually heard that the new movie will be about the OT characters' kids. Not sure if this is true or not, but now I think I'd like it better if it was about the kids, because like you said, I don't want to see the characters get recast.

I also heard that it will be an original story, which makes me very happy because I think that Disney and Lucas can do so much better than just adapting EU.

At this point we can't put too much trust in what we hear about the new movies, this is just what I've heard and I don't know if it's true or not.

My brother thinks that it'd be cool if they did some Old Republic movies. I agree with him. It's a totally different time in the SW universe, so there wouldn't be any worries about bad recasting.

I like the idea of an Old Republic movie too- there is so much history and stories to explore in that era. And they could do it so canon was messed up. Then everyone could be happy!

I totally freaked out when I heard about it and freaked out even more when I heard about more movies. I can't wait for 7 to come out!!!

I kind of wanted old republic movies... but SERIOUSLY!? Luke and Leia and Han's time in the limelight was over before any of us were even born. I do not like this. Not one bit.
