Just curious... has anyone seen the Sherlock Holmes movies or read the stories? I read a couple back in the sixth grade and then I saw both on the movies (the most recent two with Robert Downey Jr.). I don't really remember the stories, but I LOVED the movies! What about y'all?

XD What movies/books should I start with? I know there's a newer movie or two, are they clean?

I wouldn't watch the Recent Sherlock's movies. From what I've heard and watched, they aren't by my family's standard of clean.
I LOVE Basil Rathbone as Holmesy! He just fitted into the role so darling well, I have a major Fan crush on an actor who is long dead...

If you want to know if something's clean or not, check out Plugged In Online. It's run by Christians and they review all of the latest movies, TV shows, games, etc. Here are the reviews for both movies.

What did y'all think of the movies? Were they clean?
I'm a very..I wouldn't say dedicated (THOUGH I AM!), uh, picky follower of Holmesy.
I've watched 2 Tv series versions, and one I loved, one I was meh about. Why? Cuz the second's SH didn't look a BIT like the book Holmes. Thus, why I've pledged to NEVER watch the movies, even if they were up to my family's par.
Though, I'm hesitant about the british young Sherlock series, I think they'd be really cool/fun to watch, just..well...it has much errors. Sherlock didn't have curly hair, sorry. And Sherlock and Watson hadn't been friends since their teens. They just didn't.
Told you I was picky. But, I 'fraid I'm that way with everything I fan girl. I berate Star Trek when they do something cheesy, and I'm not much one for the animated Star Wars, because..well...Anakin couldn't have EVER had a padawan!
Sorry, off topic.
Well, this was a long post! Quite the book, eh?

I, personally, thought the movies were awesome! Though they're probably not the cleanest movies you'll ever watch, they're certainly cleaner than a lot of other movies. And at least these movies are honest about their rating. I looked up We Bought a Zoo on Plugged In Online yesterday, and I found out they have a ton of bad words(check out the review for specifics)
And this movie is supposed to be PG!?!?!?!? Sherlock Holmes didn't have much language compared to this movie. This is why I suggest that you always look up a film before watching it because the ratings are deceiving most of the time (unless if it's something like Beauty and the Beast in 3D)
Anyway, I thought the Sherlock Holmes movies were great, but it's really up to you if you want to see them. Savvy? (Oops, wrong movie reference)

Yeah, ratings can sometimes be...over/under rated.
But, still, My heart goes to Basil m'Love.
I will agree, Nigel Bruce as Watson didn't fit the book description as well as Jude Law, however, you couldn't help but love'im!
Oh, yes. Robert Downey Jr. is an amazing Iron man and everything else, in fact, if I think he's a pretty downright handsome guy, and I wish I was about 10 years older...(kidding!) But, he is not my style Holmesie.

PSSH movies. If you want to get into Sherlock Holmes, read the books/short stories. I love "The Hound of the Baskervilles". Also, read the collections of short stories in books like "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, the Casebook of Sherlock Holmes, The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, etc.

No one else is allowed to so much as TOUCH those books.
And if you are lucky enough that I allow you (shakily) to read my books, you DO NOT dog ear, tear and leave anywhere 'xept a high shelf.
Oh, yes, I love me books.
I'm getting really worked up, my blood pressure is going through the roof, I just LOVE LOVE DOUBLE TRIPLE CAN'T HELP MYSELF L>O>V>E Sherlock Holmes!!

I have to speak now or forever hold my peace. Though the only real contact I've had with Sherlock Holmes is through Robert Downey Jr's movies, I'm perfectly fine with that! xD We saw 'A Game of Shadows' in theaters a couple weeks ago, (of which I'm writing a review on) and honestly I like the first one better. I'm sure it'll take a few more viewings after it comes out on DVD to gain my favor, but I still prefer the original. (Plus we ordered the soundtrack for it after Christmas, and it came today! )
Oh! One reason I love 'A Game of Shadows'...Madam Simza! I love her character, she is my new favorite.

I love Sherlock Holmes. My favorite actor for him is Basil Rathbone. He is the TRUE Sherlock Holmes. All his movies are really really good.

I feel kind of lame saying that the only thing I do Sherlock is the BBC TV show. Anyone know of that? I like it a lot, but it's definitely not for everyone.

If you have an e-reader (or if you have an Apple product, you can download the kindle app) you can get most of the Sherlock Holmes books free on Amazon.

I LOVE SHERLOCK HOLMES! I read the stories a while ago, but I watched the movies starring Robert Downey, Jr., pretty recently!
