I saw the dance thread and thought the actors should have something to talk about.
What's your favorite kind?
I kinda like non-musicals. I like watching musicals, but there's no way I could be in one without a LOT of training.

dsflkajsdf I LOVE musicals. /did theatre all through high school
I do like straight plays though (I am a huge fan of Shakespeare) but I love the spectacle of musicals a lot. I also really love to sing and so that's a factor too.
My favorite shows are: Les Miserables, Into the Woods, West Side Story, Sweeney Todd, The Frogs, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Sound of Music, Shrek the Musical, Legally Blonde the Musical, and most of the Disney shows. I'm really into the classics, obviously. And Stephen Sondheim. I LOVE Stephen Sondheim.
I'm also really excited for when Bring it On the Musical goes on Broadway because one of my high school friends is in it and I got to see it when it premiered in my hometown (for it's "test run" before it got picked up to go to Broadway).
@Endor: What are some of your favorite plays?

Well, I have only been in two plays my entire life (I think). Both of them were church musicals ("L.O.S.T." and "Christmas Hang-Ups"). I have seen a lot of plays/musicals though. "The Lion King", "101 Dalmatians the Musical", "Little House on the Prairie the Musical", "Hamlet", "Shakespeare's Case", etc.

When I think about it, I actually haven't seen very many plays.
The favorites that I do have are: The Importance of Being Earnest The Foster Father Steel Magnolias Leaving Iowa The Little Foxes

I liked acting. I only did it for a little while in elementary school, but I remember being in choir, and then doing show choir, which is singing and acting put together. We did Disney Spectacular and High School Musical. the only real play I was in was "Annie". That was fun. I had one line, and I was a hobo. I also got to be a maid, a bus rider, and a singer/radio girl person. It was fun.
Dancing and playing my instruments take up all my extra curricular time, but I might try acting again later.

allishmalli - I saw Little House on the Prairie too! What did you think of it?
I love musicals, especially The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, The Music Man, Annie, Oklahoma, and Godspell.
I've been in a theater group for about a year and have done one musical and one straight play, both of which I enjoyed immensely. We're doing another musical this spring, and I'm really excited to get started on it!

I loved it! It stayed true to the books and my dad said that the guy who played Almonzo looked almost exactly like his friend did when he was in college. Weird, huh?

I got to see Wicked in NYC! Not with the original cast though, but the Annaleigh Ashford was playing Galinda and I was excited because she was from the original cast of Legally Blonde the Musical (she played the ditzy blonde sorority girl Margot)!
And then afterwards my sister and I waited outside the stage door to meet the guy who played the Wizard and the girl who played Nessarose, and they signed our playbills too!

That sounds like so much fun Sarah! It's so cool that you got some autographs!!! I saw it in San Antonio, but hopefully I'll see it in New York when I go on the school trip this summer. We voted on which musicals to see, but haven't gotten the results yet.

Whoa, is the whole thing on Youtube?
I know that all of Legally Blonde the Musical is on Google Video (it's from the MTV live broadcast of the show) but I didn't know Wicked was on the internet too!
Subject: Re: Theatre Topic Fri Mar 04, 2011 8:55 pm
Yeah, I saw the entire show, but sadly it wasn't the version with Kristin Chenoweth.
*later*
Shoot. I can't find it anymore. I watched it in the middle or late of last year and it had recently been posted, but I think it's been taken down. I'm glad I got to watch it when I did!!! I wish they could have left it up, but I guess it has copyright laws.

I've always wanted to be an actor(well, most of the time) so I've done plays/dance recitals since I was little. My main acting dream is to do films but plays are good experience and just plain awesome to do! I have mostly done Missoula Children's theater(the one that travels around from place to place each week) and plays at the local Children's Theater in town where I live but this summer I did Annie at the local 'in the round' theater and played the role of the orphan Pepper. It was one of the best acting experiances of my life; it was so nice to work with people who were serious about what they were doing(we did have a few who weren't but they were little).
I have also seen several plays performed (and some on DVD) My favorites are-
Wicked (So amazing. I cried at the end which is something I rarely do) Godspell (I did this play and I sang a solo in it as well as playing roles in the different parables. It was such a great experience) Suessical (I did this and played one of the Wickersham brothers ) Annie (I played Pepper, very very fun role) Through the Looking Glass (I played my largest role ever- the Red Queen I had 93 lines and I was also doing another play at the time- phew!) The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (I played Peter in this play!) Into the Woods (I didn't really enjoy the part I had in the play but the Broadway version is amazing) Little House on the Prairie (saw this and is was very good)

Thanks Oh, I didn't do Wicked or Little House on the Prairie, I just saw them. (though these aren't all the plays I've done...but the ones I didn't mention weren't that great and I didn't have good roles or they were Missoula Children's theater)
