Subject: Ender's Game Mon Dec 17, 2012 2:01 pm
I know this isn't going to be a very popular topic(yet) but I decided to add it for posterity.
Ender's Game is my favorite book series ever( used to be to Artemis Fowl before the last book. I still go back and forth between them. Eh.)
The book Ender's Game itself is about a school where kids go to learn to command ships against an alien invader. BUT IT IS SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT. It is about empathy, and love, and cruelty and humanity and EVERYTHING. It's very dark but has a lot of funny and epic parts. Orson Scott Card is the most perfect writer that ever existed.
The series as a whole is basically about humanity. They span literally hundreds of years with the same characters. The characters are so complex and deep and awesome. AND FOR MANY OF THE BOOKS THEY ARE ALL KIDS. It's kind of scary how simultaneously child-like and mature these children are. Like, the majority of the books I have read have the characters in between like 5 and 15.
Everyone needs to read these books! They will have special meaning for Christians because although they're not Christian books, they have so much truth in them that I never realized till I read them. Reading them will make you a happy, entertained, wise person. XD Each book seems to get better than the last(unlike the usual pattern of series)
Plus, there's a movie coming out next year(which will be the HIGHLIGHT OF MY LIFE) so you should totally read the books first.
This is the order I recommend. (bold is the ones I have have already read) Ender's Game Ender's Shadow Shadow of the Hegemon Shadow Puppets Shadow of the Giant Shadows in Flight(I finished this one last night. I have NEVER bawled so hard when finishing a book). Speaker for the Dead Xenocide Children of the Mind Ender in Exile Earth Unaware/Earth afire/all those other prequels.
Please, everyone, run go get them. XD

Heeeey! I read Ender's Game last year in English class!!! I thought it was great (although I really didn't feel motivated enough to read the rest) and I'm excited about the movie! I think they picked a great cast (with the exception of Abigail Breslin. Seriously?). Harrison Ford will make a great Graff and Asa Butterfield will make a good Ender!
Speaking of which I JUST found a picture of the movie on IMDB!!! Check it out!!!

Read the rest!!!!!!!!!!! XD
I don't think Abigail Breslin's personality really matches Valentine's now, but I think she looked like her when she was younger. What about Moises Arias as Bonzo? XD I don't think he has that much experience playing such a serious role...O.O
And Asa Butterfield is really, really tall. XD

I agree. Asa's tall. But, I don't think that Asa's height will effect how well he'll play Ender. He's been in some really good movies (Hugo, Nanny McPhee 2, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas).
I do agree with what you said about AB. Also, AB is too famous for my taste and isn't right for the role. I think that Moises Arias could play a good Bonzo (although my friends still cringe at the idea). Maybe this is Moises' time to show us how good an actor he actually is since all we know of him is Rico from Hannah Montana. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Quick question. When reading the books, did/do you imagine the Buggers to look like Geonosians? That's what I pictured them to look like.

I think all the actors would have been better if they were younger. Like Hugo Asa would have been absolutely perfect.
It's just disorienting, you know? Cause Ender's famous for being really really small and then he's taller than everybody else O.O

I guess you're right. But I figure that it's not going to be exactly like the book (movies rarely are). I mean it would be almost impossible to take a six year old actor and try to make him look twelve later on in the movie without switching actors. It makes more sense to me just to make Ender a bit older and taller in order to have a good actor play Ender.

Yeah, I guess it's just bad luck. Cause I think his age in Hugo was good and he was a good actor. It's just he hit that darn puberty growth spurt.
But I am seriously in love with Aramis Knight(Bean) so he'll hopefully be totally perfect. But he's supposed to be like...under four feet in the book. XD For important reasons!

I love Ender's Game! I've read the first two books in the series so far(read both of them awhile back- I think I was thirteen when I read the first book) and the books are very well written and very well done science fiction. Which reminds me, I need to re-pick up Xenocide from the library and read it next time I need books.

The two sequel "paths" take very different directions! The Shadow series is much more modern and less abstract than the Xenocide/Children of the Mind thing. I really recommend it, it's more like action/ thriller.
I LOVE Orson Scott Card's writing, did I mention that! He's REALLY good at writing emotion into very few words.

Depends on which books you read, I guess? I didn't find much in the first book, but the Shadow series especially got me, because of Ender's parent's expressing their faith and how they tried(and failed) to raise their kids in it. Bean befriends a Catholic nun who expresses the meaning of Christianity through witty, non-preachy, totally touching conversations with him. Although not entirely Christian, Shadow books have a strong pro-family and pro-life message that really shines through.
I know how it is to be a starving fan now...I check fansites everyday for movie news. Can I please have a trailer, like NOW? XD

Awesome!!! I really like the Asa, he'll be perfect as Ender. I just really do not like Hailee Steinfeld who plays Petra though

Aww, why not? I haven't seen any of her movies. Is she not a good actor?

Well, my reasoning for not liking her are personal - I auditioned for the film "True Grit" and she got cast which stank since she's from California and has had roles in things before and I was hoping they'd at least cast someone in the south west/mid west who had never had the chance to be in a film. I don't know how good of an actor she is, but from what I saw I wouldn't say she's amazing.

Thank you!! I didn't get passed the interview stage since I didn't look right and didn't have the right accent, so it didn't have anything to do with acting ability. I don't know how she was in the movie since I haven't seen her act in anything yet, but I saw the trailer for the movie.
