| Some of the older kids on academic team are insisting I watch this show But I don't know much about it. How many seasons are there? And do I just start at the beginning? Is it still running or has it ended? Any help would be appreciated

| OH BOY LET ME TELL YOU ALL ABOUT IT!! *cracks knuckles* All right, first off you should know that Doctor Who has actually been on the air (more or less) since the 1960s. It's got as much, if not more, official "canon" as Star Trek. The show ran from the 1960s through the 1980s, and that time span covers Doctors One through Seven. The Eighth Doctor was in a made for TV movie in the 1990s. Doctors One through Eight are considered "classic Who." But don't let all that dissuade you! The show was started again in 2005 with the Ninth Doctor. It's not exactly a reboot (because it picks up more or less after Eight) but you don't need to have any prior knowledge of the show to enjoy it. Seriously, I started watching with the bare minimum of knowledge (that there was this guy who was 900 years old and an alien and he travels through time and space in a police box that's bigger on the inside and he can regenerate when he's dying) and I had no problem at all following the story. There's a lot of shout outs to the classic series which are fun to catch, but it's okay if you've never seen a second of classic Who in your life. So yeah, the new series is called "new Who" or (nu!Who) and consists of (so far) the Ninth Doctor, the Tenth Doctor, and the Eleventh Doctor. There's been six seasons of new Who so far, with the sixth season having just finished back in the fall. Aside from the seasons there's a bunch of various specials as well that are usually about an hour or so long. Wikipedia has a detailed list of all the episodes and specials, so I'll link you to the new Who ones: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Doctor_Who_serials#Ninth_DoctorOh, and in that Wiki article, "series" means "season" (so, series one = season one of new Who for example). And each season in about 13 or so episodes long. But roughly, you can break it down as such -Season one: Nine -Seasons two through four: Ten -Seasons five and six: Eleven Currently it's still running, although we aren't getting any new episodes until late 2012 (sob). As for where to start watching, I would either personally start with Nine or Eleven. Nine (season one) is an excellent place to start watching Doctor Who because, like I said, you can come in totally clueless about the show and not feel lost at all. Eleven (season five) is similarly a pretty good place to start because it's a new Doctor and, more importantly, when a new head writer took over. So it's very much a "clean slate" and an easy jumping in point. Personally though, I would recommend starting with Nine. But I also like watching things in order, so that's just me. So yeah, I hope that novel of an answer helps! If you have any more questions, definitely ask! I love helping people become Whovians. | |

Rose: No, you're just sort of brown. The Doctor: I wanted to be ginger! I've never been ginger. And you, Rose Tyler! Fat lot of good you were. You gave up on me! taken aback Oo! That's rude. Is that the sort of man I am now? Am I rude? Rude and not ginger. :D:D:D

| Well, if you have Netflix you can watch it there. And I know there are various posts on tumblr that have downloads for all the episodes of new Who so far (don't worry they're safe; I've used them to download new episodes since I don't bet BBC America at school).
I don't think that they're on YouTube though.
